The heartleaf philodendron is the classic trailing houseplant: glossy, heart-shaped green leaves on stems that spill from a shelf or hanging basket, or climb a moss pole if you offer one. It grows quickly, forgives missed waterings, and roots easily from cuttings you can share.

It tolerates low light but fills out faster in bright, indirect light. Water when the top inch or two of soil has dried, keep it out of cold drafts, and pinch long runners to encourage a fuller plant. A standard well-draining potting mix is all it needs.
