Japonica Camellia ‘Debutante’

An old Southern favorite dating to the 1900s, ‘Debutante’ covers itself in light pink, full peony-form blooms from early winter onward — one of the earlier japonicas, and one of the most reliable in our area.

Morning sun or filtered shade suits it best, with acidic, well-drained soil and a good layer of mulch. It grows into a graceful upright shrub that works as a specimen, a foundation anchor on the shady side of the house, or part of an evergreen border.
