‘Lady Laura’ is a japonica camellia, an evergreen shrub with glossy dark leaves that flowers through the cold months when almost nothing else in the garden bothers to bloom.

It wants morning sun or high dappled shade with afternoon protection, in acidic, well-drained soil. Plant it where you can see it from indoors on winter days, or near a path you walk regularly — a reminder that the garden is never truly asleep.
