About this plant
Pink muhly grass spends the summer as a neat, fine-textured green fountain, then transforms in fall when airy pink plumes open above the foliage like a cloud of cotton candy. Massed, it turns whole beds rose-colored in October. It is a Southeastern native, reaching about 3 feet tall and wide.
Full sun brings the heaviest bloom; give it well-drained soil and it handles drought, heat, and deer with ease. Leave the plumes standing for winter interest, then cut the clump back near the ground in late winter before new growth starts.
