Berry Smoothie is a coral bells grown for its leaves rather than its flowers — large, ruffled foliage in berry tones that shifts through the seasons rather than fading out, and flowers on fine stems above the mound as a secondary show.

Part shade is the rule here; our afternoon sun bleaches and scorches the brighter heucheras. Give it soil that drains and set the crown level with the surface, never buried — crown rot in wet ground kills more of these than any winter does.
