Denver Daisy is a black-eyed Susan with a signature marking: golden-yellow petals stamped with a mahogany-red ring around the dark central cone. Blooms are large and plentiful from early summer into fall on plants 1 to 2 feet tall, and they hold up well as cut flowers.

Give it full sun and nearly any soil, clay included. It handles heat and dry spells once established, deer mostly ignore it, and bees, butterflies, and seed-eating birds all use it. Deadhead through summer for more flowers, then leave the last cones standing for the goldfinches.
