Encore Amethyst is a reblooming azalea that flowers in spring, again through summer, and once more in fall, with rich purple blooms on a tidy shrub around three feet tall. In winter the foliage takes on a purple cast, so it holds interest even out of bloom.
Unlike the old spring azaleas, Encores want more light: give this one part sun to nearly full sun with acidic, well-drained soil. Mulch well, water through the first summer, and prune lightly right after the spring flush if you need to shape it.
