Winged Elm

Winged elm is a scrappy, fast native with fine-textured foliage, corky ‘winged’ twigs that add winter interest, and clean yellow fall color — an underused workhorse for tough sites.

Sun to part shade in nearly any soil, wet or dry, compacted or not. Good for quick shade, native plantings, and spots where fussier trees sulk.
