About this plant
White Cloud muhly does what pink muhly grass does, but in white: late in the season the fine, wiry green foliage disappears under a haze of airy white plumes that catch low sunlight and move with every breeze. Clumps run about 3 feet tall and wide in bloom.
This Southeastern native grass wants full sun and takes drought, deer, and the occasional wet spell in stride. Plant it in drifts of three or more for the full cloud effect. Leave the plumes standing for winter interest, then cut the clump back hard in late winter before new growth starts.
