Peachie's Pick is a compact selection of Stokes' aster, a Southeastern native, with lavender-blue, fringed flowers up to 3 inches across from midsummer into fall. It holds a dense, upright clump 1 to 2 feet tall instead of splaying open the way older forms can, so it stays presentable at the front of a border.

Being native to our region, it takes Birmingham heat and humidity in stride. Give it sun to part sun and decent drainage, especially in winter. Deadhead to extend the bloom, and expect steady traffic from bees and butterflies while it flowers.
