Candy Stripe is a creeping phlox whose spring flowers are striped pink and white like little peppermints, opening so heavily the whole mat turns solid color for a few weeks. The rest of the year it is a low carpet of fine, needled foliage 4 to 6 inches tall.

Give it full sun and sharp drainage; it is at home spilling over walls, down slopes, and along curb strips where the soil is thin and dry. Once established it handles drought, deer, and rabbits, and butterflies visit the bloom. Shear it lightly after flowering to keep the mat dense.
