Emily McKenzie is a crocosmia with unusually large flowers: bright orange trumpets marked mahogany-red at the throat, carried on arching sprays above fans of sword-shaped foliage in mid to late summer. Hummingbirds find it fast, and the stems cut well for arrangements.

Plant the clump in full sun in soil that drains, and water during dry summer stretches. The corms multiply underground, so a single plant becomes a patch within a few seasons; divide crowded clumps in early spring. Deer and rabbits rarely touch it.
