About this plant
‘Mission’ is the dark purple-black fig of the produce aisle — rich, intensely sweet, and soft enough to split open. Ripens mid to late summer on a vigorous tree reaching 15–20 feet if unpruned.
Full sun, well-drained soil, and no pollination partner needed — ‘Mission’ fruits on its own. Site it against a warm south wall or another sheltered spot; it'll resprout from the base after hard winters. Go light on nitrogen.
