Plant pansies in fall and they'll flower through the cold months when almost everything else has quit. The blooms are big and cheerful, and they actually prefer cooler air—they'll rest during our hot spells and pick back up as temperatures drop.

Space them six inches apart in well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Keep the soil evenly moist and pinch off spent flowers to keep them coming.
