Bromeliads are tropical rosette plants grown for stiff, patterned leaves and a boldly colored central flower bract that holds its color for months. Many form a natural cup at the center that collects water, part of how they drink in the wild.

Set yours in bright, indirect light and keep that central cup filled, flushing it with fresh water now and then. Let the potting mix dry a bit between waterings. After the bloom fades, the plant sends up pups you can pot on for the next generation.
