Black Gum ‘Wildfire’

‘Wildfire’ black gum runs hot all year: new growth emerges glossy red, matures to deep green, then the whole tree turns molten scarlet-and-burgundy in fall — among the best fall color of any native tree.

Full sun to light shade in acidic, moist-to-average soil. Bees love the spring flowers (black gum is the tupelo of tupelo honey), and birds take the fall fruit. A superb native shade tree at 30–40 feet.
