Sasanqua Camellia ‘Kanjiro’

‘Kanjiro’ is the workhorse tall sasanqua of Southern gardens: rose-pink semi-double flowers smother it from October into December, and it grows fast and upright enough to actually screen something.

It takes sun better than almost any camellia — full morning sun and most of the afternoon are fine here — in acidic, well-drained soil. Plant it as a flowering privacy screen, an espalier, or a small limbed-up evergreen tree. Bees work the open flowers on warm fall days.
