Encore Empress is a repeat-blooming azalea with semi-double pink flowers that show up in spring, again through summer, and once more in fall. It grows upright to around four feet with dark green foliage that takes on a bronze cast in winter, so it holds structure in the bed year-round.

Unlike older azaleas, Encores want real sun, about four to six hours, with some afternoon relief in Birmingham. Plant in acidic, well-drained soil, mulch generously, and water deeply through the first couple of summers while it roots in.
