Pride of Mobile is one of the big Southern Indica azaleas that define spring around here. It covers itself in rosy-pink blooms with a deeper flush at the center, drawing butterflies and hummingbirds, and it grows quickly to eight feet or more, filling blank walls and big bed spaces.

Give it part shade, or morning sun with afternoon protection, in acidic, well-drained soil. Mulch over the shallow roots and water through dry spells the first couple of summers. Prune right after bloom if you need to shape it.
