Variegated liriope forms tidy, evergreen clumps of strappy leaves edged in creamy yellow, brightened further by violet flower spikes in late summer. At about a foot tall, it's the classic edging plant for walks, beds, and tree rings in Birmingham landscapes.

It grows in nearly any light from sun to full shade, though the variegation glows brightest with some sun. It handles drought, deer, and rabbits once established. Cut the old foliage back in late winter before new growth so each season starts clean.
