Catlin's Giant is an oversized ajuga, with bronze-purple leaves noticeably bigger than the common types and short spikes of violet-blue flowers in spring. It creeps along the ground into a dense mat only a few inches high that weeds have trouble getting through.

Use it under trees, along shaded walks, or spilling around stepping stones; it takes part sun to full shade. Average water suits it, deer and rabbits leave it be, and bees and hummingbirds work the spring bloom.
