Beelicious Purple is a compact agastache that sends up upright spikes of tubular purple flowers over aromatic, grey-green foliage from midsummer on. Hummingbirds and bees work the spikes constantly once they open, and the leaves release a strong herbal scent when brushed.

Sharp drainage matters more than cold here, since wet winter soil is what kills agastache in Birmingham clay. Plant it on a slope, a raised bed, or in gritty, lean ground, and skip rich feeding. It fits the sunny front of a border or a dry spot where heavier perennials sulk.
