Panama Red is a coneflower with rosy-red daisy petals around a raised orange-brown cone, blooming through the heat of summer on sturdy stems. It is a native prairie perennial that pulls in pollinators all season and holds its own through Alabama heat once settled.

Give it full sun in a spot where water runs off rather than pooling, because wet winter ground is what rots these plants here, not the cold. Deadhead for more flowers or leave the cones standing so the goldfinches can work them over into fall. Once established it tolerates drought.
