Dakota Double Gold is a double-flowered black-eyed Susan, its golden blooms packed with extra petals around a dark central cone, held on sturdy stems from midsummer into autumn. It's a native perennial that brings a long run of gold to the border when many plants have already faded.

Plant it in full sun and ordinary garden soil, where it grows tough and drought tolerant once established, so it suits a hot sunny border or a meadow-style planting. Deadhead to keep the flowers coming, or leave the seed heads standing into winter for the goldfinches.
