Coneflowers are native prairie daisies with a raised cone at the centre, and 'Guatemala Gold' carries its blooms through the heat of summer when many perennials have quit. It is drought tolerant once established and holds up well in a bed that gets a fair share of afternoon sun.

Wet winter ground is what kills most coneflowers here, not cold, so plant them somewhere the water moves off quickly, such as a raised bed or a slope. Deadhead for more flowers, or leave the cones standing and the goldfinches will do the work for you.
