Summersong Firefinch is a native prairie coneflower with daisy-form blooms raised around a central cone, opening through the heat of summer on sturdy, upright stems. The flowers draw pollinators through the hottest weeks, and the cones left standing into autumn feed goldfinches.

Give it full sun and soil that drains freely, because wet winter ground is what kills most coneflowers here long before cold does. After the first season it asks for very little water. Deadhead for more flowers, or leave the cones standing and let the birds have them.
