David is a garden phlox with big, clean white flower heads on stems 3 to 4 feet tall, blooming through the heat of summer when much of the border is resting. It is known for holding healthy, mildew-resistant foliage, and butterflies and hummingbirds work the blooms steadily.

Full sun to part sun in decent, well-drained soil suits it, and good air circulation keeps the leaves clean in our humid summers. Water at the base during dry spells and deadhead spent heads for a second flush. It dies to the ground in winter and returns reliably.
