The fishbone cactus grows flat, deeply notched stems that zigzag like a fish skeleton, cascading over the pot edge as they lengthen. It's a jungle cactus from Mexico, an epiphyte that grows on trees in the wild, which is why it looks so at home in a hanging basket.

Treat it more like a tropical than a desert plant: bright, indirect light, a chunky, fast-draining mix, and water when the soil is mostly dry. It appreciates humidity, and mature plants can reward you with large, fragrant night-opening blooms.
