Amber Lady is a coral bells grown for its foliage, which holds an amber-gold tone through the seasons, and sends up slender flower stems as a bonus as a bonus. It forms a compact clump of ruffled leaves that stays tidy from spring through fall.

Give it part shade here, since our afternoon sun scorches the brighter leaf colours. Drainage is the whole game in Birmingham's clay, because crown rot in wet ground kills more of these than cold does. Plant with the crown at soil level, never buried, and use it along shaded borders or in containers where the leaves can carry a corner.
