Gaudi Red is a compact gaura, holding deep rosy-red, butterfly-shaped flowers on short, wiry wands that dance in every breeze from early summer until frost. Bred tighter than the old whirling-butterflies types, it stays around a foot or so and keeps its flowers close to the foliage.

Gaura is a Texas native by blood, so heat and drought are its comfort zone; what it cannot stand is winter-wet soil. Give it full sun and sharp drainage, in the ground or in containers. Shear it back by a third in midsummer if it slows down, and it reloads for fall.
