About this plant
‘Governor Mouton’ has been passed along in Gulf South gardens since the 1800s, and for good reason: it's tough, dependable, and generous with oriental-red blooms splashed and marbled in white from winter into spring. No two flowers mark quite alike.
Morning sun or high shade, acidic well-drained soil, and mulch — the standard japonica recipe. Its proven cold-hardiness makes it a safe choice for exposed sites that punish fussier varieties. A fine specimen or woodland-edge shrub.
