‘Appalachian Snow’ blooms with white bracts in early spring before the leaves emerge on a native flowering dogwood reaching roughly 20 feet. From a University of Tennessee breeding programme, it shrugs off powdery mildew and anthracnose — the two diseases that fell ordinary dogwoods here.

Morning sun with afternoon shade, moist acidic well-drained soil, and mulch keep it thriving. Dogwoods resent drought and trunk damage, so site it where you can water it and keep equipment clear of the trunk.
