Penny's Pink is a hellebore that blooms when almost nothing else does, opening rounded, clear pink flowers from late winter into spring above handsome dark evergreen leaves marbled with silver veining. The foliage looks good the rest of the year, so it earns its spot twice.

Plant it in shade to part shade in well-drained soil; under deciduous trees is ideal, with winter light and summer shade. It is drought tolerant once established and reliably deer resistant. Trim away tattered old leaves as the flower buds rise.
