Snapdragons give you tall spires of color when most other annuals have faded—peak season here runs from fall through early spring. Plant them in January for winter blooms, or wait until August and September to set up a show that lasts straight through the holidays.

They're sturdy enough to handle Alabama cold snaps and thrive in full sun with decent soil. Deadhead spent flowers to keep them coming, and you'll have vertical interest in beds and borders when you need it most.
