Tutti Frutti lupines send up dense spires in mixed berry shades of pink, rose, white, and violet above bold, hand-shaped foliage, a cottage-garden look that draws hummingbirds. Plants run two to three feet tall in bloom, striking at the middle of a border.

Lupines prefer cool conditions, so in Birmingham give them morning sun with afternoon shade and rich, moist, well-drained soil. Set them out early, mulch to keep roots cool, and deadhead the first spikes to extend the show through late spring.
