Jack Frost brunnera lights up shade with heart-shaped silver leaves netted in fine green veins, a frosted look that reads from across the yard. In spring it adds sprays of small, true-blue flowers like forget-me-nots floating above the foliage.

Plant it in shade to part shade in moist, well-drained soil; it is a natural under trees and along north foundations, where the silver foliage brightens dark corners all season. Deer and rabbits leave it alone. Water through summer dry spells and it asks for little else.
