Golden pothos is the houseplant people hand down to beginners for good reason. Its heart-shaped green leaves are splashed with golden yellow, and the vines trail from a basket, spill along a shelf, or climb a pole, growing steadily with very little attention.

It tolerates everything from low light to bright indirect light, though the gold markings show best with more brightness. Let the top inch or two of soil dry between waterings and it will run for years. Trim the vines any time to keep it full.
