Daylily ‘Bela Lugosi’

Bela Lugosi is a daylily with large, dark wine-purple blooms lit by a yellow-green throat, a dramatic color that holds up in summer heat. Scapes rise to about 2 feet over arching, grassy foliage, with the main show in high summer. Butterflies and hummingbirds find it quickly.

Full sun suits it, though a touch of afternoon shade helps dark-colored blooms last in our heat. Ordinary soil, drought tolerance once established, and rabbit resistance make it easy company. Snap off each day's spent blooms for looks, and divide clumps every few years.
