Hoyas, the wax plants, are trailing houseplants with thick, waxy leaves and, on mature plants, umbrella-shaped clusters of star-like flowers that look molded from porcelain and often carry fragrance. The vines drape handsomely from a basket or wind their way up a small trellis.

Bright, indirect light suits them, with a bit of gentle sun encouraging bloom. Let the soil dry somewhat between waterings, since the succulent leaves store reserves. Leave the leafless bloom spurs in place, because flowers return on the same ones year after year.
