This is the dwarf form of mouse-ear tickseed, a Southeastern native that hugs the ground in neat green rosettes and sends up golden-orange daisies in mid to late spring. It spreads slowly by short runners into a low patch, and bees and butterflies visit while it blooms.

Use it at the front of a border or along a path in sun to part sun with decent drainage. Deadhead spent stems for a tidier look and occasional repeat bloom; once established it takes drought, deer, and rabbits in stride.
