Phenomenal is a lavender with silvery, aromatic evergreen foliage and violet flower spikes through summer, and the blooms dry well for arrangements. It forms a compact, rounded shrub, a tidy mound that suits the front of a sunny bed.

Here the limiting factor is not cold but humidity and wet ground, since lavender dies of wet feet and stagnant air. Plant it high in full sun in sharp, gritty drainage, mulch with gravel rather than bark, and give it space so air can move through. Keep it away from heavy clay low spots.
