St. Augustine grass has an emerald green color and fine blade texture. It is shade tolerant but still requires 4-6 hours of sun to grow well. It is also heat and drought tolerant. St. Augustine grass grows well in different southern climates and soil conditions.
Size: 24 inches x 16 inches; roughly 2.5 square feet
Watering: Needs at least 1 inch of water weekly. It is key to have good drainage to avoid standing water. If rainfall occurs and it is more than 1 inch, there is no need to water.
Fertilizing: A good rule of thumb is one pound of nitrogen for every 1,000 square feet. Fertilizing every two months is ideal unless a slow- release nitrogen is being applied. If that is the case, the fertilizer can be spread every 10 weeks.
