Eastern redbud paints the understory lavender-pink in earliest spring, flowers studding even the bare trunk, followed by heart-shaped leaves and clear yellow fall color. Few natives give more for less.

Sun to part shade in well-drained soil; it's naturally an edge-of-woods tree and looks best used that way — under high pines, at bed corners, along drives. Expect 20–25 graceful feet.
