Encore Autumn Royalty is a repeat-blooming azalea with large, single, rich purple flowers in spring, again through summer, and once more in fall. The American Rhododendron Society named it an Azalea of the Year, and its evergreen foliage keeps the shrub presentable between flushes. Expect roughly 4 to 5 feet tall and wide.

Encores take more sun than older azaleas; four to six hours of morning light helps it set buds for every flush. Give it acidic, well-drained soil, pine straw mulch, and steady water the first year. Prune only after the spring bloom if shaping is needed.
