These compact portulacas bloom nonstop through Alabama heat without complaint, thriving in the hottest, driest spots where other annuals fold. Succulent leaves and small pink flowers on a tidy plant make it a natural for containers, rock gardens, or the front edge of a bed.

Plant in May or July and water sparingly once established—portulaca actually prefers neglect to fussing. It'll flower right through to frost.
