Deep indigo spikes attract hummingbirds and pollinators from midsummer straight through fall, when most other nectar sources have faded. This salvia thrives in heat and poor soil that would exhaust lesser plants, asking only for sun and decent drainage.

Space 18 inches apart in beds or containers; it'll reach about 2 feet tall and equally wide. Deadhead spent flowers to keep it blooming, or let them go for seed that feeds birds into winter.
