Bright yellow pansies land in stores come December, when most color has fled the garden. They'll handle our cold snaps without complaint, flowering through winter and into spring if you deadhead spent flowers.

Plant them in a bed with good drainage and at least four hours of sun daily. They're small enough for pots near an entryway, where you'll see them close up on milder days.
