Yellow plumes stand stiff and velvety above dense foliage, commanding attention in beds or borders through heat that would wilt lesser plants. Set them out in April or pick up transplants in August for fall color.

Full sun and decent drainage are all you need—they'll handle our heat without complaint. Deadhead spent flowers to keep them coming, or leave them standing for their papery texture into late season.
