Archer's Gold is a lemon-scented thyme with bright golden foliage in a flat mat just an inch or two tall, releasing citrus fragrance every time a foot brushes it, which is exactly the point of planting it between steppers. Small white flowers dot the mat in late spring.

Plant it in full sun with lean, gravelly, well-drained soil; thyme prefers lean, dry ground over rich, wet soil. It stands light foot traffic, drought, deer, and rabbits, and the gold color deepens in good sun. Snip sprigs for the kitchen whenever you like.
