Alocasia Maharani, nicknamed the Grey Dragon, is a compact alocasia with thick, stiff leaves in an unusual grey-green, deeply textured with veins that give them an almost reptilian look. It stays small enough for a shelf or desk.

Grow it in bright, indirect light and let the top inch or two of soil dry between waterings; the thick leaves store some moisture, so err on the dry side. Warmth and humidity suit it, cold drafts don't. Use a fast-draining mix.
